Moscow will negotiate with Vladimir Zelensky from a position of strength, political analyst Georgy Bovt is sure. The expert recalled that several days before the second round of the election of the head of the Ukrainian state, Russia imposed a ban on oil supplies to Ukraine.

Vladimir Zelensky is likely to meet the Kremlin on the Donbas issue. The cessation of oil supplies is a serious blow to the Ukrainian economy, the expert said in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“He was actually presented with an ultimatum. Zelensky has a month to think it over,” Bovt said. The expert noted that mainly the Ukrainian elite does not agree with the Russian action plan on the Donbas. They do not want reconciliation with the rebellious region, and want its submission as a loser.

According to Bovt, Moscow is satisfied with the freezing of the conflict in the Donbas. “This is a kind of brake on Ukraine’s path to NATO,” the analyst explained. In the case of resolving a territorial dispute, Ukraine can quickly hold a referendum on joining the North Atlantic alliance, that is not profitable for Russia, the political scientist concluded.

The decision to stop the supply of petroleum products to Ukraine was made a few days before the second round of the presidential election. The situation in the market of Ukraine is close to disaster.

According to the Ukrainian agency “Nefterynok”, Ukraine occupies 59th position out of 61 in the overall rating of availability of fuel. The price of gasoline is hitting the consumer’s price more and more. Zelensky, who won the elections, will have to solve this problem.

The actor won a convincing victory over the president of Petro Poroshenko. Vladimir Zelensky scored three times as many votes – 75% against 25%. Therefore, all Ukraine problems are his now.
